New Year’s Eve is Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, and New Year’s Day falls on a Friday. The city’s 2026 events calendar lists no New Year’s Eve event or fireworks yet. Last year the city rang in 2026 early with a family Noon Year’s Eve in Parsons Alley. Here is what we know, and what changes on Jan. 1.

New Year’s in Duluth at a glance

Noon Year’s Eve

On Dec. 31, 2025, families filled Parsons Alley downtown for Noon Year’s Eve, a midday party with a dance party, crafts, free face painting, a kids’ New Year’s resolution station and a countdown to noon, according to the city’s recap. The city has not announced whether it will repeat the event for 2026. We will post the date and times here when it does; you can also watch the city’s events page.

A night out downtown

Downtown’s entertainment district is an open-container zone. Under the city’s “P.A.T.I.O.” rule (Purchase And Take It Outside), you can buy a drink to go from a licensed downtown business and carry it on the Town Green, along Main Street or in Parsons Alley. You cannot bring alcohol from home or from a business outside the district, according to Downtown Duluth and Section 3-268 of the city code.

Restaurants, bars and venues set their own New Year’s Eve plans. None in Duluth had posted 2026 plans on their own websites as of Oct. 6. Our live music and nightlife guide lists the downtown venues with their official links.

Getting home: rideshare pickup and drop-off is in front of the Activity Lawn and the Courtyard Marriott. The public parking deck under the hotel has no overnight parking from 2 to 5 a.m., according to the Downtown Duluth parking map. Ride Gwinnett does not run on Friday, Jan. 1.

Fireworks

No New Year’s Eve fireworks show is on the city’s 2026 events calendar. The city’s summer celebration was a Star-Spangled Laser Show on July 3; see our Fourth of July fireworks page.

What is open and closed

  • Library: Gwinnett County Public Library branches, including the Duluth Branch at 3180 Main St., close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, according to the library’s holiday schedule. The library closed on New Year’s Day in 2026; its 2027 schedule is not out yet.
  • City Hall: the city closed its offices on New Year’s Day in 2026, on its holiday schedule. The 2027 schedule has not been posted.
  • Trash and recycling: New Year’s Day is one of six holidays that delay pickup by one day, according to the city’s solid waste page.
  • Ride Gwinnett: no local, microtransit or paratransit service on Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, according to its holiday schedule.
  • Schools: Gwinnett County Public Schools’ winter break runs through Monday, Jan. 4; students return Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Frosty Fun over winter break

The city’s events calendar lists Frosty Fun, downtown activities over the winter school break. Last season ended with a Frosty Finale on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m., with live music, crafts and story times, according to the city.
