Sidewalks at Old Peachtree Road and Sugarloaf Parkway stay closed into November; 511GA lists no Duluth lane closures. Who to call for each road in Duluth.

Last checked Oct. 24, 2026. This page is refreshed weekly. Facts come from the City of Duluth’s City Transportation Projects and Road Closures page, its Street Maintenance page, Gwinnett County DOT and 511GA. On Oct. 24, 511GA listed no active closures in or near Duluth, and the county’s road closures page listed none.

Three governments run the roads in Duluth: the city, Gwinnett County and the Georgia Department of Transportation. Which one to call about a closure, a pothole or a project depends on who owns the road. For live conditions on the interstate and state highways, check 511GA, GDOT’s traffic site.

Current closures and projects

Sidewalk closure at Old Peachtree Road and Sugarloaf Parkway. Site development at the corner closed the sidewalk there starting May 4 for about six months, which runs into early November, according to the city, which said the closure could be extended for weather and construction. A signed alternate path for people on foot, including students walking to and from the middle school, is marked in the field. Questions go to the developer at 770-597-7480, the number the city lists.

Bunten Road Park walking trail. The city began rebuilding and extending the park’s walking trail the week of March 23. The northern half of the trail, around fields 2, 3 and 4, closed May 11, and the city said it expected to reopen it in September 2026, weather permitting; the fields stayed open. As of Oct. 24, the city’s project page still carried the September target and did not say whether that half has reopened, so check the signs before you go. Work runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and the project is on track to finish in spring 2027, with the parking lots repaved over spring break 2027, according to the project page.

McClure Bridge Road trail: comment period closed. The city is studying a walking and biking trail along McClure Bridge Road to link downtown with nearby neighborhoods and with existing trails on George Rogers Avenue and the Western Gwinnett Pathway along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. No route has been chosen; the options are an 8-foot enhanced sidewalk or a 10-foot trail along different stretches. The city held a public open house Oct. 8 and took comments online through Oct. 23. It says the input will help it pick a preferred route, and that timeline updates and any further chances to comment will be posted on the project page. No construction is scheduled. The cost estimates, typical sections, fact sheet and FAQ from the open house are posted on the McClure Bridge Road project page.

County projects. Gwinnett County DOT keeps a map of current county transportation projects and a separate map of county water and sewer projects, which often close lanes. The county says intermittent lane closures on its roads run between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. unless noted. See the county’s road closures page.

Doing work in the road

Anyone working in the city’s right of way needs a right-of-way permit from the city first. Public Works handles the registration through the Street Maintenance page. For county roads, use Gwinnett’s road closure request form.

How roads get paid for

Most of Duluth’s road and sidewalk work is paid for by SPLOST, the 1% county sales tax shared between Gwinnett County and its cities. The city says it dedicates 68% of its share to transportation, and that resurfacing, patching and repair work all draw on it, according to its SPLOST page. Full-depth reclamation, which grinds up and rebuilds an old road bed before repaving, is partly paid for with the state’s Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant.
