JINYA Ramen Bar on Duluth Highway scored 57, a failing U, on Nov. 2. Its permit was suspended for a third cold-holding violation in a row, then reinstated.
JINYA Ramen Bar, 2200 Duluth Highway, scored 57 out of 100 at a routine health inspection Monday. That is a U, the failing grade.
The health department suspended the restaurant’s permit during the visit. The Nov. 2 inspection report says the suspension was for a third consecutive violation of the cold-holding rule. That rule requires cold food to be kept at 41 degrees or below. The permit was reinstated the same day after on-site training, the report says.
The restaurant scored 81, a B, at its previous scored inspection May 13, according to the report.
The scores come from GNR Public Health’s inspection portal, which posts every restaurant inspection in Gwinnett County. Georgia grades on a 100-point scale: A is 90 to 100, B is 80 to 89, C is 70 to 79 and U is 69 or less.
What the inspector found
The inspector recorded “several risk factor violations” and “an overall lack of active managerial control.” The report lists:
- cooked Brussels sprouts at 53 degrees, octopus balls at 50 degrees and two pork items at 48 and 43 degrees in the prep cooler, all above the 41-degree limit; the food was thrown out
- a prep cooler that could not keep food cold, with a lowest air temperature of 50.2 degrees, marked as the second violation in a row
- three containers of pork soup and three of chicken soup in reduced oxygen packaging, dated Oct. 30 and kept more than 48 hours; the soup was thrown out
- an employee who handled raw chicken in gloves, then touched a fryer basket handle, a container and the cooler door with the same gloves
- wiping cloths kept in a solution with no sanitizer in it
- a bar dishwasher putting out no chlorine sanitizer, and debris inside a dishwashing machine
- two unlabeled spray bottles of chemicals
- employees’ phones, a bag, a speaker and personal food on prep tables and above customers’ food
The person in charge also could not describe all the illnesses employees must report, the report says, and was given an employee health information sheet. A key drop delivery agreement on file had not been signed by the supplier.
Several items were corrected during the visit. The report sets Tuesday, Nov. 10, as the deadline for the rest and as the follow-up date. “Due to today’s score, a follow-up inspection will occur within 10 days,” it says.

The rest of the past 11 days
The portal lists 34 food-service inspections at Duluth addresses from Oct. 23 to Nov. 2. Of those, 25 earned an A, seven a B, one a C and one a U.
The C went to Sodexo at Broadcom, 4385 River Green Parkway. It scored 74 on Nov. 2, the portal’s report shows.
Four scored 100:
- Luciano’s Ristorante Italiano, 6555 Sugarloaf Parkway, on Nov. 2
- Opa! Gyros and Kabob, 2730 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., on Nov. 2
- Notre Dame Academy, 4635 River Green Parkway, on Oct. 29
- Wendy’s, 2741 Meadow Church Road, on Oct. 26
Two kitchens from our last inspections story passed their follow-ups. Sri Thai went from 32 to 89, and 678 Korean BBQ from 72 to 91.
The count leaves out pool and hotel room inspections. A Duluth mailing address does not always mean a place is inside city limits.
