Sri Thai on Satellite Boulevard scored 32 on Tuesday, and its permit was suspended until staff finished on-site training. 678 Korean BBQ got a C.
Sri Thai, 4500 Satellite Blvd., scored 32 out of 100 at a routine health inspection Tuesday. That is a U, the failing grade.
The health department suspended the restaurant’s permit the same day. The Oct. 20 inspection report says the permit was suspended “due to 10 or more critical violations and a letter score of ‘U’”. It was reinstated Tuesday at the end of on-site training, the report says.
The scores come from GNR Public Health’s inspection portal, which posts every restaurant inspection in Gwinnett County. Georgia grades on a 100-point scale: A is 90 to 100, B is 80 to 89, C is 70 to 79 and U is 69 or less.
What the inspector found at Sri Thai
The inspector recorded an overall lack of active managerial control. The report lists:
- an employee who came in through the back door, changed gloves and touched clean utensils without washing hands
- an employee who came back in from outside wearing the same gloves and began peeling vegetables, which were thrown out
- tofu, a beef skewer, shrimp and imitation crab in the prep cooler at 43 to 46 degrees, and half and half at 52 degrees, all above the 41-degree limit; the food was discarded
- a black mold-like substance in the ice machine
- live insects in the kitchen prep area
- handwashing sinks in the kitchen and employee restrooms that could not reach 85 degrees
- no parasite destruction letters from the suppliers of fish served raw
- food kept past its seven-day date mark, and food on the floor
- a butane lighter stored above food, and a chemical spray bottle in the same container as food
Food held on four-hour time control without start or discard times was marked as a repeat from the restaurant’s last inspection. Sri Thai scored 86, a B, on May 28, and 93 in August 2025.
The report sets Friday, Oct. 30, as the deadline to fix the remaining violations. By then the restaurant must show proof of professional pest control treatment. It must also file a remodel application for an added walk-in freezer.
A follow-up will be made within 10 days. The report’s standard notice says: “Two consecutive unsatisfactory scores will result in permit suspension.”
678 Korean BBQ: a C and a third repeat
678 Korean BBQ, 3880 Satellite Blvd., scored 72, a C, on Thursday. It scored 90 at its last routine inspection in June. The Oct. 22 report records:
- a bowl of lettuce being washed in the front handwashing sink, marked as the third consecutive violation of that rule
- a black and pink mold-like substance in the ice machine, marked as the second in a row
- beef ribs, cooked beef, cut napa cabbage, cooked eggs and tofu held at 42 to 50 degrees, all discarded
- two trays of cooked rice in the warmer at 129 degrees, below the 135-degree minimum, also discarded
The ice machine was cleaned during the visit, and the lettuce was taken out of the sink. The report notes that a third consecutive violation will result in permit suspension. A follow-up is set for Oct. 30.

Two that passed their follow-ups, and one still waiting
Two kitchens that scored a C in our last inspections report went to a perfect score:
- Friendship BBQ, 2255 Pleasant Hill Road, went from 77 to 100 on Oct. 16.
- Blue Polar, 2131 Pleasant Hill Road, went from 76 to 100 on Oct. 21.
I Luv Hot Pot / I Luv Bowling, also at 4500 Satellite Blvd., failed twice this month, with 54 on Oct. 6 and 57 on Oct. 15. Its Oct. 15 report set a further follow-up for Thursday, Oct. 23. The portal had not posted a newer inspection as of Friday morning. We will report it when it does.
How the week’s grades broke down
The portal lists 27 food-service inspections at Duluth addresses from Oct. 16 to Oct. 22. Of those, 18 earned an A, seven a B, one a C and one a U.
Eight scored 100:
- Berkeley Hills Country Club Turn Grill, 2300 Pond Road
- Blue Polar, 2131 Pleasant Hill Road (follow-up)
- Friendship BBQ, 2255 Pleasant Hill Road (follow-up)
- Quality Inn, 3500 Venture Parkway
- Ras Fast Food food truck, 3545 Peachtree Industrial Blvd.
- Rice N Pie, 3980 Peachtree Industrial Blvd.
- Shawarma Street food truck, 3545 Peachtree Industrial Blvd.
- The Bake, 3294 Peachtree Industrial Blvd.
The count leaves out pool, hotel room and school inspections. A Duluth mailing address does not always mean a place is inside city limits.
