Duluth does not run its own schools. Public schools in the city are part of Gwinnett County Public Schools, led by Superintendent Alexandra Estrella. The district’s offices are at 437 Old Peachtree Road NW in Suwanee, 678-301-6000. The school year began Aug. 5, 2026, and ends May 26, 2027.

Attendance zones do not follow city limits, so some Duluth addresses go to schools with Suwanee mailing addresses, and some homes with a Duluth mailing address are outside the city. Early release days end 2½ hours early. If bad weather closes schools or forces a digital learning day, the district says it usually announces it by 6 a.m. on GCPS TV, its website, social media, ParentSquare and Atlanta TV stations.
Enrolling a new student
Every new GCPS student and every kindergartner registers through the district’s online registration system, uploading documents as part of the process; families who need help can book an appointment with the school. Kindergartners for 2026-27 had to be 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2026. Current GCPS students who move to a new address or change home schools complete the district’s “New Address - Current GCPS Student” process instead.

- The K-12 Report Card: the state’s annual report on every public school and district.
- The Georgia School Grades Reports: the state’s letter grade for each school.

Redistricting is on hold
On Sept. 24, 2026, GCPS said it is pausing its planned redistricting and will not run the process this fall that would have weighed attendance boundary changes for 2027-28. The district said enrollment had shifted and it would first try to make better use of space in existing schools.
School board meetings
The Gwinnett County Board of Education holds work sessions on the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. and business meetings, typically on the third Thursday, at 7 p.m., in the Board Room of the Instructional Support Center, 437 Old Peachtree Road NW, Suwanee.
