Ceremonies
Gwinnett County’s Memorial Day ceremony is held each Memorial Day at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial, on the grounds of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville. The program includes remarks by community leaders, a keynote address by a veteran, a three-volley salute and a wreath laying, and the county formally adds the names of fallen heroes from the past year or newly found to have Gwinnett ties, according to the county’s ceremonies page.
The memorial honors about 700 Gwinnett residents who died in the line of duty in military or public safety service. Their names are carved without rank on 13 black granite markers, each nine feet tall, around a bronze eagle carrying a rose, according to the county. The 2027 ceremony time had not been posted as of Oct. 6.
The city of Duluth listed no Memorial Day ceremony or parade on its 2026 events calendar. If a Duluth veterans group, church or school is holding a public service, send us the details with a link and we will add it.
Trash pickup changes
Republic Services collects Duluth’s trash and recycling. The city’s solid waste page lists Memorial Day among six holidays that delay service by one day, so Monday carts go out Tuesday and the rest of the week shifts a day. The Public Works dumpsters at 2450 Main St. are closed on city holidays. Questions: Republic, 678-963-2873.
