Bunten Road Park construction. The city is rebuilding and extending the park’s walking trail. The northern half, around fields 2, 3 and 4, closed May 11, and the city said it expected to reopen it in September 2026. The project is set to finish in spring 2027, with the parking lots repaved over spring break 2027, according to the project page.
Rogers Bridge and the river
Rogers Bridge Park is Duluth’s river park, on the Chattahoochee in the northeast corner of the city. Its rebuilt pedestrian bridge crosses the river and connects to a Johns Creek city park, so you can walk or bike between the two cities. The canoe launch puts paddlers on the Chattahoochee, and the Chattapoochee Dog Park is in the same park. The city asks owners to keep dogs leashed outside the fenced area and to use the large and small dog sides as marked.
The city’s description notes that the park sits where several planned trails would meet: the Western Gwinnett Bikeway along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, a Rogers Bridge Trail along Rogers Bridge Road and a Chattahoochee River Greenway along the city’s northern edge.
County parks in Duluth
Shorty Howell Park, 2750 Pleasant Hill Road. Gwinnett County runs this 67-acre park with an activity building, seven lighted youth baseball and softball fields, a football and multipurpose field with a lighted walking track, a lake, a 1.25-mile paved trail, playgrounds, a pavilion and restrooms. The park is open from sunrise to 11 p.m. unless posted otherwise; the Activity Building is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. McDaniel Farm Park, 3251 McDaniel Road (historic entrance) and 3020 McDaniel Road (park entrance). The McDaniel family owned this former cotton farm from 1859 to 1999, and the county has restored it to show a typical 1930s Gwinnett farm: a furnished farmhouse, barn, blacksmith shed, carriage house and tenant house, with tours. The park has 3 miles of paved and unpaved trails, a farm-themed playground, a dog park area and pavilions. It is open sunrise to sunset; the office is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
